Tonight: Some Big Shows Are Sold Out But Here Are Two Excellent Ones You Can Still See

Choices Large

If you don’t already have a ticket for tonight’s Puss n Boots Record Release Show at The Bell House or the Camera Obscura and Laura Cantrell double bill at Le Poisson Rouge, you are probably out of luck, because they are both sold out.  My friend Tim swears that he gets into every sold out show he wants to by getting to the venue early and waiting at the box office for either the venue to make more tickets available or getting a ticket from someone who is trying to get rid of one at the last minute.  Your mileage may vary, of course.

Michaela Anne

But fear not, because there are two more really good shows over at The Rockwood Music Hall tonight as well.  First up, at 9pm will be Michaela Anne.  I just can’t say enough good things about her new record, Ease My Mind.  Michaela’s music lies someplace between country, blues, Americana and folk.  And Ease My Mind frequently reminds me of some of the more Americana-ish offerings of The Grateful Dead and/or Bob Dylan.  And even the New York Times likes her!

Nick Africano

Stick around The Rockwood until 11pm, when Nick Africano will take the stage. This is week three of Nick’s five week Tuesday residency at The Rockwood. Nick has promised a different band and a different set each night, so if you’ve seen him before, you can check him out again.  Nick is always melodic and soulful.  Joining him as his band tonight will be Jessica Lynn, Sam Weber and Avi A. Amon.

Michaela Anne (9pm), Nick Africano (11pm), The Rockwood Music Hall, 196 Allen Street between Houston and Stanton Streets (F Train to 2nd Avenue, use the 1st Avenue exit), No Cover (but a contribution for the musicians is highly recommended)
